Well, Rowyn, Chris and I all survived our "rooming in" experince last night at the hospital! We didn't get much sleep, as expected, but Rowyn did great and advanced in coming home today! She ate all of her feedings, maintained her temperature and slept a good bit during the night. All of those things have allowed her to be discharged at nearly 37 weeks. We couldn't be happier! It's been a long 30 days...
Chris and I left with Rowyn this afternoon and have been pouring over her ever since. Although it's our first night at home with her, we already feel like we know her from our NICU/NCCU experience. (i.e. changing her diaper, taking her temp, warming her bottle, feeding, burping, putting to sleep, etc). And before discharging us today, the nurses reviewed a ton of information with us to help with the transition. Naturally, we had about 100 questions.
Things we already know and love about Ro:
- She loves being held, esp close to your chest
- She gets really excited to eat!
- She makes lots of funny faces, although she's not aware of it!
- She makes a lot of funny noises and grunts
- She doesn't like the bulb syringe - the only time she really cries...
- She sleeps well (for now). She'd still be sleeping in utero anyways
- She's generally content and easy going, my kinda gal
So, over the next several weeks, we'll try to keep this blog updated as best we can, but obviously if you're a parent you know, we're not on our schedule anymore :)
Also, we will continue to post pictures of her progress. The nurses and doctors have advised us to limit visitors for a bit until she gets a little bigger and stronger, esp since it's flu/cold/RSV season. Don't worry, you will all see her soon enough!
It's still so hard to believe that all this has happened in the last month. We are so blessed to finally have her home and in our arms! Thank you to anyone and everyone who has kept up with our blog, brought us clothes in the hospital, dropped food by the house, texted, called, emailed and kept us in your thoughts and prayers - it has really worked! God is great!
Much love,
Katie, Chris and Rowyn
