On Halloween, we took the 'easy' route and dressed Ro up as an "80's fitness" baby. She was adorbs! With her pink "Let's Get Physical" onesie over blue stretchy pants, leg-warmers and a white head band, she was ready for a workout :) Dad wore a jogging suit and mom accessorized with leg-warmers and pink leggings. We were quite a hit. Since Ro's technically not eating candy, we just walked down the street and chatted with our neighbors. Of course we did score a few pieces of candy for the parents. And then went to dinner dressed in style.
For Thanksgiving, we took our first flight with a BABY to Ohio to visit the McDowell family. We prepared for a tough trip, but it actually went pretty smoothly. We gave her a bottle on take-off each way and she conked out for the entire flight. WHEW! We will not get this lucky again. Once in Ohio, she jumped right in and played with all of her cousins, aunt Alecia, Uncle Jason and grandma and grandpa. She tried mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and turkey...and loved it, of course. We also celebrated her first birthday a little early. Grandpa got Rowyn her very own chocolate cupcake and she took it over! We also celebrated grandma's birthday, since now we have (2) early December b'days :)
So, Rowyn's actual first birthday was a week later on December 6th. It was an 'Ice Day' here in Memphis, so schools/daycares were closed and we had the day off of work to celebrate with her! It was great. We played in our PJ's, opened presents, ate chocolate cake and took Ro to get her picture taken with Santa. She got some new toys, clothes, a car seat and a new walker toy.
She must have partied to hard on her BIG day b/c a day later she developed a double-ear infection and was down and out for the next few days :( She needed lots of snuggles from mom and dad. We were happy to do it though. And after a few days of a couple different antibiotics, she was back to her normal, playful self! This was the first time she's been that sick all year, so we're glad she's better! It's tough to see them feeling bad, esp. when they can't tell you what's wrong.
Once she was better, we took her to the pediatrician for her 1-year check-up. Her current stats are:
- 18.13 lbs (25%)
- 27 1/2 inches tall (10%)
- Eating 3 meals/day and still getting bottles but that will end soon!
- Sleeping through the night, although she's been waking up crying lately (separation anxiety maybe!?).
- She's crawling EVERYWHERE and stands and walks with assistance. For her birthday, grandma and grandpa gave her a walker toy that she pushes all over the house - she loves being able to move around.
- She's getting more chatty all of the time. She says BABA, DADA, GAGA and other babblings we can't quite get yet. We think she'll be a talker for sure!
- She's mimicking us too! We shake our head back and forth, then she shakes her head. Finally nice to be able to communicate with her, even on a very basic level :)
Here are some pictures - enjoy!
